Six suburbanites, Christine, Jackson, Thom, Tobi, Charles, and Vivienne, clash with each other when they all apply for the same minimum-wage job at a local cafe. Their competition for the job segways into flashbacks revealing their motivations behind applying for the job. Over time, their much deeper jealousies and self-interested conflicts with one another escalate, culminating in a clash of personalities, social mores, and modes of life in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.
